Former Nigerian football star Victor Ezeji has extended his warmest congratulations to forward Godwin Obaje after the Rangers striker officially entered the elite history books by scoring his 100th Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) goal. Obaje’s landmark achievement has triggered widespread celebration across the domestic football landscape, spotlighting years of remarkable longevity, consistency, and goalscoring excellence.
Reflecting on the milestone, Ezeji, who hung up his boots 11 years ago as one of the league’s most feared marksmen with 148 goals, inspected the feat with immense pride, noting that records exist to challenge the next generation. “No records are there forever; records are meant to be broken,” Ezeji remarked. “I stopped playing 11 years ago and would love to see my record broken.
I wish Obaje well and hope he breaks it, and if not, that’s also fine.” Obaje’s century of goals, cemented across stellar spells with clubs like Wikki Tourists, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Abia Warriors, and Enugu Rangers, places him alongside legendary company in the NPFL’s 100-goal club, sitting alongside icons like Ezeji and active veteran Rabiu Ali.
Ezeji’s gracious comments underline the deep mutual respect shared between past and present generations of Nigerian football talent. For the legendary striker, the prospect of a younger player chasing down his benchmark is not a threat to his legacy, but a testament to the continuous evolution and progress of the domestic game.
As Obaje continues to add to his tally in the Flying Antelopes’ colors, attention will inevitably shift toward how far the striker can push his numbers, and whether he can eventually track down the all-time summit.
