BUA Foods emerged as Nigeria’s most profitable consumer goods company by sales conversion in the first half of 2026, as its net profit margin surged to 38.2 per cent despite a sharp decline in revenue.
An analysis of the H1 2026 financial results of nine major consumer and food companies shows that BUA Foods generated about N38.20 in profit for every N100 of revenue, the highest margin among the companies reviewed and significantly above the 28.52 per cent recorded in H1 2025. The result means BUA Foods did not simply make more money; it became substantially more efficient at converting its sales into bottom-line earnings.
The company’s profit after tax increased 12.4 per cent to N292.27 billion from N260.07 billion, even though revenue fell 16.1 per cent to N765 billion from N91 billion. That pushed its net profit margin up by almost 10 percentage points year on year. The performance puts BUA Foods well ahead of Nascon Allied Industries, which ranked second.
Nascon’s profit margin rose to 24.2 per cent from 2 per cent, meaning it generated roughly N24.20 in profit from every N100 of sales. Profit increased 25.7 per cent to N19.6 billion, while revenue grew 3.8 per cent to N81 billion. Dangote Sugar Refinery recorded the most dramatic improvement in profitability.
The company moved from a negative 5.64 per cent margin in H1 2025 to a positive 10.5 per cent in H1 2026, following its swing from a N24.27 billion loss to a N41.51 billion profit. Its turnaround came even as revenue declined to N392 billion from N430 billion, underscoring the extent to which earnings performance improved relative to sales. Nestlé Nigeria also strengthened its ability to convert sales into profit.
Its margin increased to 9 per cent from 8 per cent, as profit rose 28.1 per cent
