United Methodist megachurch pastor and author Adam Hamilton, who is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Kansas, has released a campaign ad denouncing “both extremes" that criticizes the "far-left," socialism and open borders as well as his Republican opponent.

In a 30-second ad unveiled Tuesday, Hamilton, pastor of Resurrection Church of Leawood, said he believes “America is being torn apart by politicians on both extremes” and that it is “just not who we are” as a nation. Hamilton is challenging incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall in a closely watched race. “On one side, the far-left pushes socialism and open borders,” he says in the ad.

“On the other side, Roger Marshall gives us higher gas and grocery prices while slashing our healthcare.” “Both extremes just don't get it,” Hamilton continues. “Corruption in Congress is making everything cost more. I approve this message because we have to fix our broken politics by meeting in the middle.” Hamilton graduated from Oral Roberts University in 1985 and has a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Methodist University.

He served on an advisory council on faith-based and neighborhood partnerships during the Obama administration and preached the sermon at Obama’s second inaugural prayer service at Washington National Cathedral. A theological progressive, Hamilton announced in February that he launched an exploratory committee for a potential U.S. Senate run as an independent candidate.

In April, Hamilton declared his campaign at a press conference in Prairie Village, with the pastor saying that he would run as a Democrat who was “dedicated to leading from the center.” The Hamilton campaign released information on his stance on some hot-button issues in May, identifying him as pro-choice on abortion, anti-tariff, in favor of raising the federal minimum wage and supportive of either term limits or age limits for public
