Super Eagles debutant George Ilenikhena says his goal against Madagascar is just the beginning after opening his international account in style. The 20-year-old Al-Ittihad striker scored on his senior debut as Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar 2-1 in the 2027 AFCON qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday. “I feel very happy and proud to score my first goal with this national team,” Ilenikhena said after the match.

“It is a very big step for me in my young career. I am very happy and hope for more.” Ilenikhena, who started in place of injured Victor Osimhen, equalised in first-half stoppage time after Alex Iwobi threaded a precise pass into the box. Madagascar had taken an early lead through Ehsan Kari in the 16th minute.
