Croatia legend Davor Šuker has voiced absolute confidence that midfield maestro Luka Modrić can maintain his remarkable career well past the age of 42, even hinting at a potential run toward UEFA Euro 2028. Speaking ahead of Croatia’s UEFA Nations League clash against Spain, Šuker praised the ageless playmaker’s enduring quality and elite fitness.
Modrić, who recently celebrated his 41st birthday, continues to defy conventional football timelines, recently starring for AC Milan and writing history for the Vatreni. Modrić recently extended his historic legacy by scoring in a 2-1 Nations League win over Czechia, making him Croatia’s oldest-ever goalscorer on his 203rd international appearance.
While Modrić has maintained a step-by-step approach for club and country, icons like Šuker believe his technical brilliance and intelligence on the pitch leave the door wide open for him to feature deep into his 40s. “Modric has shown he can still perform at the top level. We have incredible quality in the squad. Hopefully there will be goals against Spain, because I don’t like 0-0s.
“Spain are favourites, but as a Croatian, I want to win. They have an amazing team, a good manager, and ambition. Hopefully they relax, but whenever people underestimate us, we step up.”
